Food Pantry/Mercadito Assistant

Description

Help us feed our community! On the day of the activity, your site supervisor will assign you the tasks listed below. Volunteer roles in the Mercadito are interchangeable, depending on our needs for the day. See the possible roles and tasks below. Please wear closed-toe shoes and be ready,  rain or shine! Some work done in the Esperanza Mercado may require volunteers to bend, stoop, and stand for long periods, including lifting boxes or items that weigh 20+ pounds.

  • Grocery Clerk:
    • organizing and refilling the store,
    • preparing immediate packaging,
    • breaking down boxes,
    • and cleaning your work area.
  • Shopping Attendant: 
    • guiding members of our community through their grocery shopping,
    • bagging their chosen items,
    • weighing food
    • delivering their items to their vehicles.
    • and more.
  • Warehouse Assistant:
    • sorting and organizing cases of food,
    • receiving deliveries from food trucks,
    • and moving cases to the grocery store
    • breaking down cardboard boxes
    • and more.
